AmeriCorps- Getting Things Done!

Join the Red Cross AmeriCorps Program of Northern Indiana!

The mission of the Red Cross AmeriCorps program of Northern Indiana is to provide vital emergency assistance to victims and communities affected by disaster and increase preparedness in the areas of greatest need before disaster strikes by recruiting, training and supporting residents who will provide integrated community outreach and education through Red Cross service activities focusing on homeland security.

Americorps Volunteers

Service Activities of the Red Cross AmeriCorps Program of Northern Indiana Members:

  1. Educate the Northwest Indiana community in disaster preparedness by teaching Community Disaster Education and Health and Safety classes
  2. Recruit, teach, and train community members on how to respond to a local emergency or disaster
  3. Respond to local disasters
  4. Respond to national disasters. RCAP-NIN members will respond to and provide relief to at least two national disasters as part of their service

Red Cross AmeriCorps Program Benefits:

  •  Up to $4,500 Living Allowance
  •  Monetary education award upon successful completion of  the program
  •  Hiring preference in state and federal government employment
  •  Training in First Aid, CPR, Community Disaster Education, and Disaster Response
  •  Invaluable experience in community preparedness, disaster response, and education

Ideal Candidates will demonstrate:

  • Strong organizational and public speaking skills
  • Ability to serve as part of a team and individually
  • Interest in disaster preparedness and response
  • Background in education, communication, recruiting, or disaster response a plus

Qualifications for Membership:

  • Age 18 or older
  • U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency
  • Valid driver's license and insurance
  • Pass a creminal background check
  • Available for at least 25 hours per week (including some evenings and weekends) between January and August
